Switching from an old version to a new one
This describes how to switch from an old Play Store installation to a new version without losing data, since the old version has to be uninstalled.
Very important:
Before uninstalling, a group must exist so that no data is lost.
To be on the safe side, you should note the ID before uninstalling (Main Menu -> 'About...') for the support team in case anything unexpected goes wrong.
There are two ways to transfer group data when updating for the first time from an old Play Store version to the new version :
1.) the old technique :
- generate an invitation to your own group (if possible, 'as owner' in the group menu)
- uninstall the old version
- install the new version
- purchase the Pro version (optional - but note the limit on the number of group members without the Pro version)
- accept the invitation to the group and join the group
2.) the new technique (recommended for the first device - only works with the Pro version):
- Before uninstalling, write down the group access code that is displayed by
'Basic Menu' -> 'Group' -> 'Menu' -> 'Backup' -> 'Group Access Code' - Uninstall the old version
- Install the new version
- Buy the Pro version
- Takeover of the group as owner by 'Join Group' -> instead of the 6-digit group code, enter the group access code (the first 32 lower case letters are sufficient).
The new technology generally allows you to take over ownership even if you were not previously the owner of the group (from version 5.8.2).
